Truck Driver Wish Comes True for Dallas Four-Year-Old
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Feb 8, 2002 - Four-year-old R.J. Matthews has been fascinated by trucks almost since birth. So when the young Texan, who suffers from a life-threatening illness, announced his wish-of-a-lifetime was to be a truck driver, Domino's Pizza and the Make-a-Wish Foundation® of North Texas teamed up to make R.J.'s wish come true.
The youngster learned how to crank the engine and blow the horn before taking off in the truck with the Domino's truck driver to deliver fresh pizza ingredients to a Domino's store. R.J. earned a paycheck and a pepperoni pizza –his favorite for his day's work.
"Domino's was the perfect partner to make R.J.'s dream come true," said Charisse Brown, director of donor and public relations for Make-a-Wish Foundation of North Texas. "When we found out we had a child who wanted to be a truck driver, we wondered how we were going to pull it off. With Domino's help, we did."
